My late mother, Ursula, throughout my life, whenever we discussed politics and the latest conflicts between countries, dictators, and self-proclaimed “leaders” (whom she referred to as “the white old men,” as in white supremacists), always used the same words:
“But the kids are dying.”
Now, as she recently passed away in March 2025, these words continue to echo in my mind.
What can we do about these old men, sacrificing the children of others to fulfill their own delusions of “greatness”? Trying to turn back time to a world that no longer exists, desperately building monuments to themselves at any cost? They kill not only the children of their adversaries but also those of their own people, sending them into senseless battles on countless battlefields.
Are millions of people simply too busy to care? Or are we too cowardly to stand up and stop these so-called leaders from ordering mass killings?
Many countries thrive under compassionate and responsible leadership. But some large nations act in appalling ways, sending hundreds to their deaths every day—barbaric, out of touch, devoid of morals, lost in time, spiraling out of control. There’s no need to name them; we all know who they are.
Young men, using everything they have to kill other young men given the same orders. Countless innocent children are labeled as “casualties,” stripped of any choice but to die for a handful of ruthless wannabes.
We don’t kill. We embrace life. We strive to make the world a better place. We live in the present and for the future—not to return to old ideologies that would reduce us to fearful, regressive beings.
Music has the power to educate those who are growing up. And no one has the power to stop music.
Listen to the birds. Listen to the jungle. Listen to the countless songs carried through the air. That is where you will find real peace—far from those who manufacture fake news and fabricate misinformation to empower themselves at the expense of reason. Instead of exploiting lies, we should embrace nature and empower others.
